There are songs, and there are songs. Al Wilson's version of "Show and Tell" is a song. The Jerry Fuller composition was first recorded by Johnny Mathis in 1972, as the tune made a respectable chart showing with a #36 peak on the Easy Listening chart.

R&B stalwart Al Wilson got his hands on the song in 1973, making it the title track of his full-length studio effort that year. Wilson's version was a crossover smash, hitting pop and R&B radio with equal force all the way to the #1 spot for the week of January 19, 1974. The track peaked at #3 on the Easy Listening chart, and cruised to cool #10 showing on the Hot Soul Singles chart. It's a song and vocal performance for the ages, and one that simply gets better with time.
