
This week, fans got their first look at Cynthia Erivo as Aretha Franklin in the new miniseries Genius: Aretha, an eight-part miniseries spotlighting the Queen of Soul.
The two-time Oscar nominee will act and sing Aretha's songs in a biographical depiction of the legendary singer as she prepares to come into her own as a performer for Atlantic Records in the late 1960s. Emmy and Tony winner Courtney B. Vance will co-star as Aretha's father, the Rev. C.L. Franklin.

Genius: Aretha will begin Sunday, March 21 on NatGeo, with two episodes running per night through March 24; all episodes will be available on Hulu the day after their initial broadcast. Previous seasons of Genius focused on the lives of Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso, with plans for a fourth season on the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. airing on Disney+ in 2021.
