Kool & The Gang, the group behind hits like "Jungle Boogie," "Hollywood Swinging," "Celebration," "Ladies' Night" and more, are releasing a new album - their 25th - this summer.
Perfect Union, due out Aug. 20, captures the magic of the group's funk/soul style that powered a raft of hits in the '70s and '80s and remains a top touring draw today. (In the last decade, the band even toured with Van Halen after David Lee Roth caught a set of theirs and insisted they be included on the band's unlikely reunion tour.) Lead single "Pursuit of Happiness" is a rhythmic plea for harmony and justice, with a propulsive beat and a quick-fire guest rap from The Def Squad's Keith Murray. The album will also feature "Sexy (Where'd You Get Yours)," a Top 20 hit on Billboard's adult R&B charts back in 2016.
The new album - their first of original material since 2007's Still Kool - was produced by the band's co-founder Ronald Bell, his last work before his passing in 2020. It'll be released on Omnivore's relaunched Ru-Jac label.
