Hang all the mistletoe, it's time to start the show: a new music video for Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas" has just premiered.

A half century after the soulful Christmas classic made its first appearance on vinyl, the singer's estate and Rhino Records spread some cheer through a vibrant new video animated by Fantoons, featuring artistry from cartoonist Lonnie Millsap.

The clip is a visual treat for Hathaway devotees: references to the singer's incredible life, career and family are sprinkled throughout, from song titles on storefronts to references of album covers - and, of course, the loving animated depiction of Hathaway himself alongside his wife Eulaulah Vann and children Lalah and Kenya.

Speaking to Vibe in 2007, the song's co-writer Nadine McKinnor said the creation of "This Christmas" "was a God plan. God was in this plan. And Donny Hathaway was a genius." Watch the video and see and hear the genius for yourself.
