Celebrating and honouring the February 20th birthdate of the music icon Nancy Wilson, whose catalogue of recordings spanned almost six decades and revealed her ability to interpret a vast diversity of music. I had the privilege and joy to work with Nancy at different times in the ’90s and beyond, including putting together a 4CD set, “The Essence Of Nancy Wilson” which included a full CD of her personal choices.
I also recall vividly attending weekly television recordings she did in Los Angeles with a number of special musical guests and spent time with her in conversations that were illuminating, fascinating and engaging, as well as seeing her in performance numerous times over at least a decade.
As the founder of SoulMusic Records, one of my greatest thrills was reissuing so many of her Capitol albums and consider her one a unique, distinctive song stylist and interpreter of the first order. Thank you, Ms. Nancy Wilson, for your contribution to music and to my life. Rest peacefully.
