2020 has been a year to celebrate healthcare workers as they strive to help those affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This year, some of music's biggest names are coming together to say thanks on the most appropriate holiday to do so: Thanksgiving.
Nurse Heroes Live! is an upcoming remote benefit concert to stream on YouTube and Facebook in support of Nurse Heroes, a new initiative "to support and honor nurses from across the world." The concert will serve as a fundraising event for various programs, including buying equipment for active nurses as well as scholarships for aspiring nurses and their children.
Among the performers announced for the event are Stevie Wonder, The Black Eyed Peas, Carole King, Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, David Foster and Gloria Estefan (whose husband Emilio is a co-producer of the event). Wonder, of course, just released his first new songs in several years on a brand-new label of his own.
Whoopi Goldberg will host the show, which will also feature appearances by Oprah Winfrey and Billy Crystal. Donations will be solicited during the production, including through an auction of a guitar donated by Taylor Swift. A team of nurses from New York's Northwell Health hospital will also be present in an ensemble performance with several of the celebrities.
Nurse Heroes Live! happens Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 26, 2020) at 7 p.m. EST.
