A chat with the long-running soul/disco hitmaker.
After earning the Soul Music Hall of Fame’s Lifetime Achievement Award last year, legendary singer Candi Staton stopped by the My Classic Soul podcast to share some stories about her incredible career!
Speaking with SoulMusic.com’s own David Nathan – who first interviewed her more than four decades ago – Staton takes listeners through her incredible career, from her days singing in church through the incredible run of material she released through the ’70s, ’80s and beyond. Staton put 19 singles in the U.S. Top 40 R&B charts between 1970 and 1979, including “Sweet Feeling,” “Stand by Your Man,” “He Called Me Baby,” “Nights on Broadway” and her signature song, the international hit “Young Hearts Run Free.”
